In a major stride towards developing Bahrain's sporting infrastructure, Faris AlKooheji, Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), has announced the establishment of an all-new specialized golf academy. Planned for the prestigious Royal Golf Club, this initiative aims to discover and hone the skills of promising young talents across the Kingdom.
This strategic move comes in implementation of the directives of His Majesty the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Faris AlKooheji: A Strategic Vision for Youth Sports
During a high-level meeting, Al Kooheji received Royal Golf Club Chairman, Captain Waleed Al Alawi, to outline the initial steps for the academy. Al Kooheji emphasized that the BOC attaches great importance to golf, recognizing it as a rapidly growing sport in both Bahrain and the wider region.
Speaking on the long-term goals of the project, Faris AlKooheji stated:
"The establishment of this academy represents a strategic step towards preparing a new generation of players capable of representing the Kingdom in various international forums."
He further praised the bilateral cooperation between the BOC and the Royal Golf Club, noting that this partnership will significantly enhance the game's achievements and infrastructure.
Building a Strong Foundation
Captain Al Alawi echoed Al Kooheji's sentiments, highlighting that the academy will contribute to building a strong foundation for the sport, effectively placing Bahrain on the global golf map.
This academy is part of a broader surge in golf development across the Kingdom, which includes:
- A new world-class 18-hole championship course designed by former Masters champion Sergio Garcia at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club.
- A planned 18-hole course at Al Areen by Al Areen Holding Company, designed by Spanish star Jose Maria Olazabal.
- The hosting of the prestigious DP World Tour Bahrain Championship, scheduled for early 2026.
Looking Ahead
With leaders like Faris AlKooheji driving these initiatives, Bahrain is well-positioned to become a regional hub for golf excellence. The new academy promises to be the breeding ground for the next generation of champions who will carry the Kingdom's flag in international competitions.
